12 Mar Chelmsford Autos can now supply and fit tyres
We have just received delivery of a brand new top of the range Hoffman tyre fitting machine and wheel balancer. These are on an order only basis (next day) as we do not carry stock but are more than happy to get them in. We are also happy to tie this in with your MOT / service for your convenience.
We can also “Stretch” tyres on to the rim for that stretched look which is a common for show cars nowadays. We do not recommend / possibly illegal (insert legal implications here) for you to drive your car on the road with stretched tyres but are happy to carry out this service for show cars.
We are pleased to announce that Chelmsford Autos has recently acquired a top of range Hoffman tyre fitting machine and wheel balancer. We can now replace worn tyres, repair punctures and balance your wheels too.
If your car suffers from vibrations it is likely that you will benefit from our wheel balancing service. Misaligned wheels is a major cause of unpleasant vibrations which lead to premature wearing of suspension and steering components, wheels and tyres.
If your steering wheel starts to wobble when you hit a certain speed this is usually a sign that your wheels require balancing. The problem is seen more in modern cars which tend to be lighter and therefore less able to dampen down vibrations.
You will not always notice the wheel balance problem in larger cars because the weight of the car will mask the problem.
Following wheel balancing you should experience a smoother drive and your tyres should last longer too.
Tyre stretching
We can also carry out tyre stretching for use on show cars. Tyre stretching is best when done professionally to ensure that the tyre is well fitted. However, cars with stretched tyres are often not covered by insurance policies and therefore not be road legal.
According to UK Police Online website tyre stretching is illegal due to extending the tyre beyond the spray suppression. However, there is still a lot of debate on the topic and the advice from VOSA is unclear. Therefore we recommend that you only stretch tyres for show cars and not to use on the road.
